Prelude – Deceit p2

Here we are with the next part of Deceit! We’ll be moving into chapter 1 next week. ;)
Take the parrot express to read the first part.

A visibly cold breeze rustled the leaves, crickets were chirping and fireflies lit up in the dark. The group attempted to stay hidden within this dark, they had no lights on, not that they needed any as they already knew the route by heart. The kids were quiet and subdued by their oppressors, they had no way to free themselves and escape. The kidnappers were relaxed and talking about their daily lifes, they were so casual about the whole thing as if it was just a daily routine.

We’re going bananas!

I made some changes to the blog, mainly took the advice of my imaginery friend Steve who has recently become a monkey. Unfortunately all he suggested was I add more bananas, I didn’t have any. So I used my own imagination and here are the results. I think I’ll consider the bananas…

Should I use Steve's crudely drawn banana as the background?

I’ll be writing at least one blog update per week, with them being released on Sundays. However, the posts might be rickety and you might see some released during the weekday. It all depends on how well I can hide from my evil gerbil army, that was a plan that backfired spectacularly.

They're everywhere!

Prelude – Deceit part 1

Hello folks! Here we go with the rewrite of the first draft of my novella! Part one of the first chapter, or rather prelude, below. Hope you enjoy! ;)

“Hurry up Mint!” one of the boys called out, “We haven’t got all day!” She was unhurried, far behind them and fascinated by the surrounding flora. In comparison the frondescence of the forest ahead seemed daunting to Mint. She sighed and abandoned the wild flowers, chasing after the rest of the group. They were well on their way to meet Mavis, the weird hermit of the town. He usually stalked the market, but right now he was waiting for the Galebusters at the inn. They agreed to help him treasure hunt after he showed them an old map. It showed the location of a treasure from the legend of the chameleon man, who blended in with his surroundings in order to steal from others. He was rumored to have stolen the treasures of the townsfolk and buried them somewhere before he was caught and hung for his crimes. They say his corpse was iridescent, shimmering in the sun and giving off a grimful array of colours.

Graphicized – The Other Topic

Done! I drew the background and here it is. Took me the entire day but I think it was well worth it. :D

This brings me to the second topic of my blog. The artsy stuff. I’ve got more experience with art actually, I’ve been using photoshop for a few years now, though not extensively. Not too long ago I found a great website filled with tutorials and resources for your photoshop needs. I do recommend.

And I just found a resource roundup on deviantArt, which I didn’t check out yet, but I’m sure is filled with great stuff. Another thing I just found that blew my mind is this guys work. Holy crap.

Victory! What I’ve learnt by winning NaNoWriMo.

When I first approached the idea of writing a book of my own instead of reading one and enjoying its marvels, well, I was really excited. I wouldn’t have known if it wasn’t for NaNo though. As for NaNo, I did it! I won!

NaNoWriMo Winner Stamp

Aw Yeah

So what did I get out of it? The foundation to really make my story. For NaNo I decided to make a story in a whole new different world. At the start I barely knew anything about it, I’ve thought of how it would work in the past but only in general terms, not in detail.

Then came NaNo and bam, I use that world I’ve been thinking about. A month of slaving at the story, writing with no plan whatsoever, and here I am. I have a better understanding of my world now, much better in fact. Even though I didn’t think about anything in detail in particular, but all that story I’ve written has given me a much better understanding of it now.

I think that if you’re trying to make something, a character, a town or a world, you should write blindly and quickly. Make a short story, write 2000 words once a day for a week blindly about adventures your characters have. At the end of it you’ll have a deeper understanding of who you’re making, what you’re making. That’s when you can sit down and detail them. Then you can plan their next adventures, you’ll know how they’ll react and what they’ll do.

How does this work? I figure each one of us is constantly churning through their ideas in the background of their heads, moulding and forming what’s to be their creation. It’s as simple as giving it the resources and the time to let it all process. Then when we return to it we should be able to work on a deeper level with what we have.

That brings me to another thing. Think you’re finished writing something and you possibly can’t make it any better? Think again. While I was perusing the internets I found a post. This is what I’m talking about, let it sit in your head. Be it a day, a week or even a month. Well, a month might be too much waiting, it helps not to forget what you wrote. After you come back to what you did, you can almost always find something you can improve immediately. Other times you can just stroke your ego by how perfect your creation is.  Like I do.

Just a small warning.

The background is undergoing heavy tests and changes. It’s a work in progress until stated otherwise.

The Newbie and the First Draft

NaNoWriMo. That time of the year where people all over the world, take the time to write a novel in a month. I’m one of them.

It’s my first time, and I’m actually going to win. But I’ve had the fortune of writing together with someone else. My girlfriend to be exact, it’s her second year, she’ll win too.

I wasn’t sure what I could do with the novel once it’s complete, it’s my first one so I figure it’s going to be crap. But I’ve gotten more confident about it and it’d be a waste if I kept it to myself, maybe someone will like it. I decided to put it out here, though I’m burning up from the thought of that. This is the raw, unedited, first version of the novel.

I’m definitely planning on editing it all, as I think I’ve mixed some things up. But if I do it all by myself I probably won’t get anything better than the current version.

For those interested, the novel is in the sidebar.

Everyone who provides feedback will have my eternal gratitude. :)

Hello World!

I’m Daniel, and this is my go at blogging. Now I can’t promise I’ll constantly provide interesting content throughout my blogging life, but I’ll try. There’s a lot of things I love, but here in this place… I think I’ll focus on things about writing. Though who’s to say I won’t introduce other things in the future.

So this is me saying: “Hello World! I’m glad to be here!” :D
